Colored Stone Graduate

The study of Colored Stone Graduate investigates all the properties of precious stones. Enables him/her to identify, grade and value gemstones based on international standards using specialized tools and you’ll learn how to distinguish synthetic from natural gemstones (ruby, sapphire, emerald and more).

Course Contents

  • Introduction to basic terms in gemology and appearance of a gem of nature
  • Identify gemstones using specialized tools and instruments
  • Origin, Crystallography , Spectroscopy, Hardness, optics, specific gravity
  • Study of gemstone inclusions, inclusions characteristic of different stones from various sources using a gemological microscope
  • The leading stone: corundum – Ruby and Sapphire, Beryl – Emerald (main sources, history, gemological analysis, characteristic features, treatments)
  • Recognize how quality of a gem affect value
  • Treatments and synthetics, methods of detection of treated stones
  • Final test

Terms of receiving CSG certificate

  • Theoretical examination – 35 questions
  • Practical examination – Students have to examine 25 gemstones correctly.
