Gemologist Graduate
FGL Gemologist Graduate course provides students with a broad and thorough understanding in diamonds and colored stones which you may require anywhere in the jewelry industry. This course enables you to obtain in-depth knowledge on the classification of all the different varieties of
gemstones. Students receive extensive theoretical and practical knowledge, allowing them to sort and evaluate diamonds by The 4 C’s – Carat, Clarity, Color and Cut and you’ll learn how to distinguish synthetic from natural gemstones (ruby, sapphire, emerald and more).
Course Contents
- Experience the FGL Diamond Grading System
- Calculation of the carat weight
- Diamond Clarity – examination of Diamonds using microscope and loupe 10x, Plotting and exercises
- Diamond Color – examination of Diamonds by comparison with master stones
- Diamond Cut – examination of Diamonds table, proportions, symmetry, polish and angles of observation
- Identify gemstones using specialized tools and instruments
- Use the FGL Colored Stone Grading System to evaluate gemstone quality
- Study of gemstone inclusions, inclusions characteristic of different stones from various sources using a gemological microscope
- Recognize how quality of a gem affect value
- Treatments and synthetics, methods of detection of treated stones
- Final Test

Terms of receiving GG certificate
- Theoretical examination – 85 questions
- Practical examination – Students have to examine and grade 12 natural diamonds and 2 simulants out of 14 diamonds and have to examine 25 Colored stones correctly.
